There were monsters on the battlefield. There were monsters on the battlefield. A storm of bullets with no cover or shield. The cries of men shot out to the sky. It plagues me now even on this night. It's been 4 months since I've been home Sweating in my bed, all alone. The nightmares won't end, the war won't leave me. I'm afraid to be asleep because my sleep will deceive me. There were monsters on the battlefield. It's time for a drink, maybe two, I need more Something to keep out the horrors of war. I get to the bar, pull up a seat, buy a drink Just to lend myself some time to think. And that's when he sat next to me, I didn't talk but he spoke with such integrity, Such confidence, such grace with his husky tone. He bought me a drink and my heart reversed from stone. He smiled at me told me stories, made me laugh And finally lead me away from a nightmarish path. He took me into his arms and told me a future; A future where we could be together. But there were monsters in the battlefield. He woke me up at morning and told me this night was important; He told me he might be gone, and I should not forget about him. He told me to stare at the moon and listen to the howling wolves Because that's where he is, at least that's the story he told.

I felt his lips liquify my body. Azure eyes like the oceans skies And my cries -- and my woe Bedding with my foe. As his hands touched my hips and a flick of his wrists I had fallen again. On his sheets I was slain again and again. The massacre of my soul. This slaughter I glorify, I worship, and idolize. My blood is on his claws, I'm alive if only for tonight. And the next moon he's gone Away from my song, Away from my touch. Where has he gone? My man left on the full moon And never came home. His touch still lingers here Along with his song. Some nights I hear him howl, He's crying at the moon. I know that must be him My love, I'll see you soon.

Where have you gone? My love I thought you would return. I wished to see you again. But the moon keeps waxing and waning And not once do you appear. Where have you gone, my love? If I scratched out my eyes, If I screamed to night skies, Would you hear my cries? Or will you leave me to die Decaying within my strife When you've become my life? But no, I will not be skewed by the depths of my heart. They may have become empty! (But I still live, I still exist!) And if you're not here, Then so it goes, my dear, I'm okay with being alone. I stare at the full moon tonight. I dreamt once in this light. But dreams like that are gone Just like your taste and your song. (I thought I heard you howling...) So that's not you crying at the moon. I guess it was too good to be true. And I guess after all my heartfelt sighs I won't see you soo--...

And when we embraced, I felt his soul's light It filled my broken being that was lost that awful night Four months ago, when he tore himself away from me When I gave up on living, cursed to be lonely. The nightmares wouldn't stop without his laugh And the night fears struck me like a thunderclap. His smile could stop wars, his voice could halt riots And his arms made my nightmares quiet. Now here he was, tucking me in his arms, His blue eyes like clear skies promised me no harm. And he chuckled and I felt the war subside. He kissed my lips and our souls tied. He told me a story, why he had disappeared Because there was a hunter who filled him with fear. I promised to destroy the fucker for taking my love away from me But he just laughed, "He's gone, don't worry. I'm free." "We're free?" "We're free." That night, draped in his body and warm He spoke of his yearning to be in my arms. How he wanted to come home to his lover, To the man who cured his own tremors, The tremors I never knew existed in him He told me the wolf that had it's own whim And how, when I my soul decorated his mind He found that peace was easy to find And when we woke up the morning after, He stared at me in the eyes and smiled "I want you to be mine, as man and lover." I kissed him on the lips, he pulled me closer and I replied "I'll be your lover, I'll be your anchor." "I want you to be mine, as man and lover." "I'll be your lover, I'll be your anchor."
